One of my favorite nights of the month over the last year or two has been the 2nd Thursday of the month, because that’s when Jazz & Joe comes to Harleysville, at Church of the Holy Spirit. Jazz & Joe’s mission is to bring “jazz to the community through performance at community gatherings,” as well “as to further the study of jazz to those who cannot afford the cost” and “to pay musicians a fair rate for their effort.”
The jazz quartet starts playing at 7 p.m., and takes just one break before putting away their instruments at 9 p.m. There is a small space for dancing, tables with tea lights on which one can place refreshments (often homemade desserts, along with coffee, soft drinks, and wine). There is no charge for the concert or refreshments, although there is a basket for a good will offering (money goes towards the music program at the church).
Church of the Holy Spirit, 2871 Barndt Road, Harleysville (corner of Route 63 and Barndt Road).
