Two fabulous student music competitions are taking place on Sunday, and if you time it right (and drive really fast) you might be able to catch both.
Finalists in the Schadt String Competition will perform a concerto in a free event at 2 p.m. at Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N 6th Street, Allentown, on Sunday, March 3rd. This year’s competition is between cellists, ages 18 – 30. The competition rotates annually among violinists, cellists and classical guitarists.
Doors open at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 3rd, for the High School Jazz Band Showcase at the ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem. Seven of the eleven bands taking part in this year’s competition will perform this Sunday (the other five competed last weekend), with groups competing for the opportunity to open for Preservation Hall Jazz Band May 9 at RiverJazz presented by Concannon Miller. General admission tickets for the 4 p.m. show are $5.
