Summer means more free art and music, outside and in

Make Music Upper Perk is over until next year (save the date now – June 21, 2014), but that doesn’t mean that you’ve missed your chance to enjoy free music and celebrate summer and the arts.

Free outdoor concerts Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night, ranging from Irish music to rock to big band, in Bethlehem, Green Lane, and Souderton, repectively – and then of course there are 4th of July concerts near and far – here in Upper Perk, the Red Hill Band will once again share their talents with the community at the New Goshenhoppen Park before the fireworks begin. Details for all these concerts, and more, can be found on the Music Page.

ArtsWalk on Saturday in Bethlehem features acoustic music, at various sites in the historic district including at The Sun Inn, Moravian Book Shop, and on street corners across the street on the Hotel Bethlehem side. Painters, photographers and jewelers will also line the streets and there is a Wine Trail where businesses will offer free samples. If you have kids, stop by the 60 W. Broad Street at the Kid’s Corner where a coloring contest will be held, along with weveral other activities for children. ArtsWalk runs from 4-8 p.m., and will also be held on July 27 and August 31.

This Saturday is also the last chance this season to check out the sculptures and garden at Sandra Webberking Studio in Springfield, PA, from noon to 4 p.m. Sandra Webberking Studio, 126 South Bishop Avenue, Springfield, PA 610-626-1536

If you are looking to get out of the sun and inside, check out one (or two) of the wonderful plays in the area. This is the closing weekend for Oklahoma at Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival in Center Valley and for Crazy for You at Muhlenberg College in Allentown.

Or take a drive to Michener Museum in Doylestown, the Allentown Art Museum, or our own local Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center. Details on current exhibits at these museums can be found on our Art Page.
