Shakespeare in the Park and final weekend Musikfest 2013

Five performances of Twelfth Night will take place this weekend, August 9-11,  at the Joseph S Daddona Lake and Terrace, St. Elmo and Union Streets (just off 21st in West Allentown),  for this year’s FREE Shakespeare in the Park in Allentown.  Friday night’s show begins at 8 p.m., while on Saturday and Sunday the shows start at 2 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Each show is preceded by an hour of live music; harpist Andrea G Wittchen at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and the Ashley and Scott Acoustic Duo at 1 p.m Saturday and Sunday, and 7 p.m. on Sunday. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and food for a picnic. Food and drink will be for sale at the park, including desserts like S’More Mini Pies, Nutella Mousse Mini Pies and Peach Crumb Pie.

IMG_3358Despite rumors to the contrary, Musikfest has stages and performance spaces on both sides of the river; in historic Bethlehem as well as at ArtsQuest. The Uke Jackson, a fabulous Dixie Land Band, is playing outside the Hotel Bethlehem from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday night (I heard them Thursday night). The crafts area is along the creek below Main Street, as are several stages,  and lots of food and drink for sale. Most of the concerts are free, and take place rain or shine. My family favorite,Trout Fishing in America will perform twice on Saturday; 1:30 p.m. at the Volksplatz, and 7-8:30 p.m. at Liederplatz. This is the final weekend, so don’t miss your last chance in 2013. The music ends at 11 p.m., Sunday, August 11th.
