Weekend Escape

After a week where so many were snowed in, and activities were cancelled due to predictions of “snowmageddon,” this is a good weekend to escape the house and winter weather.

Cinderella ticketRodger and Hammerstein’s classic Broadway musical, Cinderella, opens tonight at the Upper Perkiomen High School (2 Walt Road, Pennsburg, PA). This year’s high school musical takes the stage in the school auditorium at 7 p.m. tonight, Thursday, March 8, 2018. Tickets will be sold at the door beginning an hour before the show; doors to the auditorium open half an hour before the show. Performances continue through the weekend; 7 p.m. curtain on Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2018.

If you are interested in attending musical theater all weekend long, students from the Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School takes over the stage at Cedar Crest College’s Samuels Theatre, located in the Tompkins College Center (100 College Drive, Allentown, PA) for their musical production of The Wiz (7 p.m. March 8-10; 2 p.m. March 11, 2018), and The Music Man opens at Saucon Valley High School2097 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown, PA: 7 p.m. March 8-10; 2 p.m. March 11, 2018.

Saturday night, March 10, 2018, head over to the Church of the Holy Spirit, 2871 Barndt Road, Harleysville, PA  to attend the 7 p.m. Concert with Keoni Bolding, Violin & Seth Trumbore, Piano & Aidan Bolding, Cello. Free will offering/reception to follow the concert.

Sunday evening, March 11,  enjoy the Acoustic Blues Project (with Tom Cooney, Earl Andrews, and Leon Bonam), jamming at the Hava Java Cafe, 526 N. 19th Street, Allentown, PA (West Allentown, across the street the the 19th Street Civic Theatre!).
And if you just need some convincing that spring will eventually return to our area, two flower shows are taking place this weekend; the Philadelphia Flower Show (ending Sunday) at the Convention Center in center city Philadelphia, Pa, and, a bit closer to home, the Lehigh Valley Flower and Garden Show at the Allentown Fairgrounds, 302 N. 17th Street, Allentown, PA; noon – 8 p.m. Friday, 10 am. – 8 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday (March 9-11, 2018).
