While it is hard to resist going outside now that the weather has finally gotten warmer, rumor has it that there might be rain this weekend, in which case here are some ideas to get you out of the house after our long bleak winter and grey wet (short) spring…
However, if the sun stays out a little longer today, celebrate May the Fourth First Friday in Lansdale, PA. Entertainment includes; Dj Chris Evans playing on-and-off theme music at Railroad Plaza beginning at 6 p.m. Additionally, the band River of Dreams, a seven-piece Billy Joel cover band, will be performing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wood Street in front of Round Guys, a costume contest (for light and dark side costumes), there will be a free photo booth at Railroad Plaza with Star Wars props (and a few professionals attending, who will be around for photo ops).
Discover Lansdale’s First Friday season will kick off in a big way in 2018, as we celebrate and honor those who have learned the ways of the force!
This year, we’re launching our theme-driven First Friday season with a Star Wars event, as it falls on May 4 and wordplay is fun. The event will occur throughout the downtown area of Lansdale from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at which point the event will give way to the After Dark portion of the evening, where area businesses and night life will feature additional activities, contests, drink specials and more.
This event is free to attend, and will feature activities and displays suitable for all ages. Additionally, there will be an outdoor beer and wine garden (age 21+) as well as a section purely for children.
Civic Theater’s spring production opens this weekend onstage at Cedar Crest College Alumnae Hall Auditorium (100 College Drive, Allentown, PA – their stage home while 19th Street theater is undergoing major renovation this year) – Tuesdays with Morrie. TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life.
Children of Eden, musical by composer Stephen Schwartz, who also wrote Godspell, Wicked, and Pippin, goes on stage in Quakertown this weekend at McCoole’s (4 S Main Street, Quakertown, PA). – through May 20, 2018;
From musical theatre greats, Stephen Schwartz and John Caird, comes a joyous and inspirational musical about parents, children and faith… not to mention centuries of unresolved family business! An expansive and ambitious musical, the original production used a cast of sixty.
Adam, Eve, Noah and the “Father” who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet. but inspiring. message: that “the hardest part of love… is letting go.”
This is the final weekend to see the Sondheim musical Into the Woods on the main stage at DeSales University, 2755 Station Ave, Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Performances may be sold out, so it might be worth buying tickets online.
Two free local concerts are on for Sunday, May 7, 2018; one in the afternoon, one in the evening. The Boyertown Area Choral Society presents Movie Tunes, featuring songs made famous through film from the 1930s to the present at 3 p.m. at Good Shepherd UCC, 35 W. Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown, PA.
