Spotlight on UPMS and Hill School Theatre

Tonight is opening night for  Circus Olympus at The Upper Perkiomen Middle School. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at UPMS have been rehearsing for months, and now you are invited to see the show! The curtain will rise at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 24th and Saturday, February 25, 2017 in the auditorium at the Upper Perkiomen Middle School, 510 Jefferson Street, East Greenville, PA. General admission tickets will be available at the door for $5.

The show starts each evening at 7 pm and offers Greek mythology with a circus atmosphere.The “Greek geeks” will share the stories of Demeter and Persephone, Perseus, Arachne and many more. The myths are served up with a healthy helping of circus silliness!
The musical Grease goes on stage tonight at the Hill School, 860 Beech Street, Pottstown, PA. The curtain rises at 7:15 p.m on Friday and Saturday, February 24 and 25, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017. Admission is free; the show is open to the public.

Theater in February 2017

Perkiomen School middle school and upper school students have joined together to stage this year’s musical, Back to the ’80’s. Performances begin at 7:3o p.m. on Friday, February 17th, and Saturday, February 18th, and at 2 p.m .on Sunday, February 19th, 2017 at Kehs Theater, 200 Seminary Avenue, Pennsburg, PA. Free and open to the public.

On Opening Night, there will be a pre-show reception. Guests are encouraged to wear their finest 80’s gear. The pre-show party will be held in the Innovation Center, Carnegie Library (corner of 2nd and Seminary Avenue, Pennsburg, PA) at 6:30 pm.

The musical comedy 9-5 The Musical opened last weekend at Civic Theater, 19th Street, Allentown, PA, and continues its run through the end of the month (final night is February 26, 2016). Tickets may be bought online , over the phone ( (610) 432-8943), or at the box office.

9 to 5 The Musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, is based on the beloved hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this is the hilarious story of three unlikely friends who unwittingly kidnap their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical, bigot boss and subsequently take over the office…to extraordinary results. Join us for this office party!

This is the closing weekend for Clybourne Park, currently being staged at Steel River Playhouse, 245 E. High Street, Pottstown, PA. Tickets may be bought at the door or online. The show begins at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening, Feb. 16-18, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2017.

Winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize, London’s Olivier Award for Best Play and the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play, Clybourne Park is a wickedly funny and fiercely provocative play about the volatile combination of race and real estate.

Circus Olympus!! UPMS students from 6th, 7th and 8th grade are busily preparing this play for presentation on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25.

The myths are served up with a healthy helping of circus silliness! The students have been rehearsing since December and are looking forward to sharing their talents with the audiences!
General admission tickets are $5.00 and will be available at the door.
It is not too early to reserve tickets for upcoming high school theater events (soon to be listed on ValleyArtScene Theater page), including for this year’s musical at the Upper Perkiomen High School; Beauty and the Beast, which will be performed March 9-12, 2017, in the UPHS auditorium, 2 Walt Road, Pennsburg, PA. While some tickets will be available at the door, there is no open seating this year. Audience members choose their seat when purchasing their tickets, which can be done online in advance.
The curtain rises at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon; doors to the theater open 30 minutes before showtime.

The Lion King leads the way…

The Lion King, Jr (an abridged version of the Broadway musical The Lion King) starts off the local school musical season this weekend, at Strayer Middle School, 1200 Ronald Reagan Drive, Quakertown, PA.  Tickets are $5, general admission seating, and go on sale at the door at 5:45 p.m. for evening performances, and 11:45 a.m. for matinee. Performances are scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening (7 p.m. curtain), February 2-4, and Saturday afternoon, February 4th, 2017 (1 p.m. curtain).

If you’d like to spend some time outdoors this weekend, Emmaus’ annual Snowblast Winter Arts Festival takes place on Friday evening, 5:30 – 8 p.m. on February 3rd and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, February 4, 2017. This free event is held throughout Emmaus, primarily in the downtown Main Street shopping district.
