Rainy Days, but let the music play on!

Two Flutes and a Piano, a program of music from the Baroque to the 20th Century, performed by Ed Schultz and Chelsea Meynig on flute, and Jeffrey Uhlig on piano begins at 7 p.m. tonight – Friday, September 29, 2023. This event is part of the COHS Concert series, open to the public, in Harleysville, PA at the Church of the Holy Spirit (2871 Barndt Road). Suggested donation is $25.

Enjoy An Evening of Music with Mudfroot on the last Saturday in September from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. (if the rain has left us – raindate is Sunday, October 15th at 3 p.m.)

Bring a picnic blanket to spread out on the lawn and enjoy a relaxed evening of music! With a strong belief that live music should be as much fun as possible, Mudfroot has been sharing their takes on songs from various musical traditions as well as their often eccentric originals with unsuspecting listeners since 2015. Originating in Perkasie, PA, this group of childhood friends draws on each member’s unique interests to create a playful mixture of bluegrass, pop, and rock. They recently had the opportunity to perform a set at World Cafe Live as the featured artist at their Philly Rising open mic, in addition to their unnervingly constant presence playing around upper Bucks County. They are currently finishing up recording an EP solely featuring original songs about local food. Suggested donation of $10 gratefully accepted at the event, and will go directly to the musicians. They’ll have merch for sale too! Support your local artists and enjoy an early fall evening of music.

Bring a picnic blanket to spread out on the lawn and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of music! Ian Althouse is an acoustic performer/songwriter with the stylings of rock, reggae, pop, and funk. Specializing in 90s and 80s alternative music, Ian throws in some modern and classic songs too, so everyone can appreciate his wide range of selections. With a steady voice and crafty guitar playing, you are sure to get a quality show anytime you see him. Donations will be gratefully accepted at the event.

The Michener Art Museum (138 S Pine Street, Doylestown, PA) has just opened what the Philadelphia Inquirer calls “a groundbreaking Lenape art exhibit,” Never Broken: Visualizing Lenape Histories.

“Never Broken: Visualizing Lenape Histories” is an exhibit that aims to tell the story — past, present, and future — of the Lenape people. This exhibit, which will be on display into January, appears to be the first to focus solely on Lenape art.

The inspiration for the exhibit came from a depiction of Penn’s Treaty being conducted with the Lenape, a painting originally made by Benjamin West. The painting has been reproduced on everything from textiles to fine china to textbooks — and Laura Igoe, chief curator at the Michener, wanted to highlight the problem with the image.

by Massarah Mikati, Philadelphia Inquirer

“Never Broken: Visualizing Lenape Histories” is on display through Jan. 14, 2024. The Michener Art Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.

Community Days and So Much Music!

With the dream of somewhat cooler weather and the theory that more people are staying closer to home over the weekends, now that September is here, it seems like nearly every locale is hosting a hometown “community day” or “arts festival.”

And then there is Vaudeville Storytime : Puppet Power at Wunderbarn, 2979 Kutztown Road, East Greenville, PA – register now to make sure there are enough supplies for everyone!

This Saturday … Puppet Power!

Build a fabulous new character with arts educator, playwright, and puppeteer Sarah Stachura Regan

Sat. Sept. 9th • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Bring your whole family for an opportunity to express creativity and let imaginations soar in this lunch-and-learn-style playshop.

From sketching and designing, to construction with found objects, and voice work and movement, participants will learn the basics of puppetry, then design and create a puppet of their own to take home.

Bring your own bag lunch or a snack to eat. If the weather is nice (as predicted!), we can sit outside and enjoy the pond view. We have a built in audience for spontaneous puppet shows: 13 appreciative ducks!

The suggested donation for this special, end-of-the-season Vaudeville Storytime is $15 per participant.

Group rates and scholarships are available

Register with a call or text to Jenny at 570-328-8658.

This ensures we have enough supplies for all. We can’t wait to meet all the new characters that are created at this playshop!

Two outdoor festival events this weekend include Community Day in East Greenville and Pennsburg (since the two run together, with Main Street closed from Pennsburg Square aka Rt 663 and Main Street to Fourth Street in East Greenville, it seems only natural to count this as one event) on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 (raindate is Sunday, September 10), from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m, and Doylestown Arts Festival on both Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

East Greenville and Pennsburg are each hosting musicians throughout the day; East Greenville will have three stages, one on nearly every block, while Pennsburg will most likely be providing performance space near Rite Aid – lots of space needed for the Upper Perkiomen High School Marching Band! And of course there will be vendors, crafters, food stands, community organizations represented and more!

Doylestown Arts Festival will be hosting live music on five stages and over 150 local and regional juried artists, including sculptors, painters, jewelers, mixed media, potters, and more throughout the weekend. There will be demonstrations and arts activities. The festival will be held rain or shine this weekend, September 9th and 10th, and there is no admission charge.

The following weekend, head over towards Lehigh Valley for the Farewell to Summer Festival in Emmaus, PA, at the Triangle and along Main Street, running from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., and the Art in the Park 2023 at West Park Historic District in Allentown, PA, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., both on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Both events are free and open to the public, and both are hosting live music, free activities for children and adults, and local artists who will be displaying and selling their creations.

First Friday and 100th Annual Allentown Band Concert in New Goshenhoppen Park!

The nights have been cooler, the days beautiful, and school buses are once again on the road as the month of August (and summer) comes to a close. But that just means that fall, in all its glory, is just around the corner. And the First Friday in September is tomorrow!

And once again East Greenville and local businesses are hosting live music as part of First Friday on September 1st. Bank Street and Third Street (just off Main Street, East Greenville, PA) will be closed for local vendors (and maybe some food trucks?) The Timoteo Blues Implosion – a regular at Make Music Upper Perk – will be performing his music from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Third Street, near the Owls’ Nest. Simple Days Beer Brewery is hosting live music performed by Catfish & Jo with Lobster Mobster food truck onsite, 4 – 9 p.m. And across the street, Frank Porter will be making music on Abella Specialties’ front porch.

The 100th Annual Allentown Band Concert and Picnic is this Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, at New Goshenhoppen Park – Third Street, East Greenville, Pa. The event opens at 3 p.m. with an hour of Piano in the Park, featuring Grace Notes Piano Studio students (Susan Royer, instructor), along with special surprise guest vocalist, Ann Fogler!

If you’d like a bite to eat while waiting for the 5 p.m. start of the hour and a half Allentown Band concert (and would rather not leave the park or pack your own picnic basket), the folks at New Goshenhoppen UCC have prepared an Ala Carte Menu: – (Food priced separately) Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Turkey BBQ, Baked Beans, Pickled Cabbage, French Fries, Tomato Salad, Applesauce, Homemade Desserts, Ice Cream & Beverages.
